Wonderful Chinese armorial plate. Circa 1780.
Made for FRENCH family
According to Howard vol II page 178, Nuno de Castro,
in his Portuguese Armorial book
lists it as Dominic Alexis French who emigrated to Lisbon, Portugal.
Motto is 'Rather death before dishonour"
Measures 9.75 Inches.
Some parts of the leaf decoration were silvered, now they
have oxidised black.
Must have been quite a sight
when new.
Measures approx 9.25 Inches wide.
Excellent condition
short isolated hair crack at 12'o'clock
was restored.
2 minute hairs to rim.
