Here is a superb Minton? porcelain egg cup with a story to tell. It is marked with a golden Barons Coronet and the initials MJR. Baron Mayer de Rothschild married Juliana his cousin in 1850. They lived at MENTMORE TOWERS Buckinghamshire, England. Fascinating piece. Lovely rich gilding. Don't miss this fine example.
Mayers mother, Hannah, believed her sons were unhealthy, so set about purchasing land in Buckinghamshire, prime hunting country. Lionel built a Mansion at Tring, Anthony at Aston Clinton and Mayer at Mentmore. He embraced country life, turning his back on the family banking business. Mentmore Towers became one of the most sumptuous houses in England, filled with every kind of treasure. Even the guest bedrooms had Louis XV commodes made for the king, with marble tops, set with new sinks. Baron Mayer willed a fortune to his only daughter, Hannah of over £12,000,000 plus the estate.
