Item Description

A superb Derby porcelain plate in Imari colours. Central roundel with the Crest of the Hood family, Viscounts Hood, of Butleigh Court.

Samuel Hood 1724-1816 rose to the rank of Admiral and was a mentor to Nelson. He served in the:

Seven Years War
American Revolutionary War
French Revolutionary War.

His brother Alexander Hood also became an Admiral and Viscount Bridport. As well as other members of the family who had Naval careers.

Mount Hood in Oregon, Hood's Canal in Washington and Port Hood are named after him.

A monument was built in his honour in 1831. The Hood Monument, based on Trajans Column, rises to a height of 110 feet or 33.3 metres and is situated on a hill in Butleigh. It was originally linked to the family home, Butleigh Court by a mile long avenue of Cedar Trees.

Condition: crack with rivets.

Measurements: Approx. 9 Inches wide.
