Item Description

Here is an exceptional English armorial porcelain plate probably made for William Ward, Viscount Ednam, 1st Earl Dudley(2nd Creation. Not to be confused with John Ward), of Witley Court, Worcester & Dudley House, Park Lane, Mayfair, London. Old family seat was Dudley Castle. One of the most beautiful examples, with angelic supporters, rich blue ground colour and exquisite raised gilding.

William Ward "frizzle wig" made his fortune from 200 black country coal mines and became one of the richest men in England. He was a benefactor and paid for the restoration of Worcester cathedral where his monument rests.

Despite a devastating fire in 1937, the shell of the Victorian palace survives today as a spectacular ruin with restored parkland and monumental fountains maintained by English Heritage.

Ward House is one of the few remaining private palaces in central London, recently valued at £200,000,000.

Measurements: 9.25 Inches(23.5cm)

Condition: Perfect condition.
