A rare 18th Century Indian colonial silver bowl by the sought after silversmith Hippolitus Poignand. Born in Jersey 1761 and originally working in the Channel Isles, Poignand moved to Calcutta in 1793 to supply silver for the growing European colonial population. He died in 1805.
History
Crest and motto of James HAY (b.1771) of Seggieden, Perthshire. His grand daughter and heiress Charlotte married (1859) Lt Col. Henry Drummond (1814-96), son of Admiral Sir Adam Drummond, who assumed the name Drummond-Hay on his marriage.
