Item Description

a fine 17th century carved giltwood and polychrome painted armorial oak shield depicting a coat of arms, crest and motto: CASSIS TUTISSIMA VIRTUS, later mounted for hanging.

247mm x 172mm x 25mm / 9 11/16" x 6 3/4" x 1"

Condition: armorial in very good original condition, minor gilding and paint loss, no breaks, splits or chips; break and loss to one side and top of recess frame; later repaired split to back board;
