Known as the "American Lady Wolseley", Lady Anita Wolseley, nee Murphy, of San Francisco married Sir Charles Michael Wolseley of Wolseley Hall, Staffordshire. She was rumoured to have brought a dowry of $2,000,000 to England.

The Wolseley family had lived at Wolseley Hall since Norman times. In the eighteenth century Wolseley Hall was rebuilt, but burned down in the 1950s.
