Item Description

A delightful late 18th century armorial bookplate for Joseph Whatley.

Col. Sir Joseph Whatley, born 1765 was Colonel of the Royal South Gloucester Regiment of Militia and a Knight Commander of the Guelph (1831), a civil order in the gift of the Sovereign as personal mark of recognition of his service of 20 years as a Groom of the Bedchamber successively to George IV and William IV. He was the son of Edward Whatley, Mayor of Bristol in 1768.

In excellent condition.

Unframed.
