Item Description

each designed as an heraldic knight with plumed helmet, holding a baton in one hand and, in the other, supporting the candle nozzle on an acanthus leaf decorated stem, standing on a domed rocaille base.

Height: 200mm / 8"

History

"A man in armour ppr., holding in his hand a truncheon", representative of the ancient courtly figure of the Knight Marshal, is the family crest of MORLEY and MARSHALL.

However, as the title Knight Marshal was abolished in 1846 (a year before the candlesticks were made), it is possible they were commissioned by Sir Charles Montolieu Lamb, the last holder of the title.
