Item Description

A mid 19th century armorial bookplate for Bateman of Middleton Hall by Youlgrave in the County of Derby.

Probably for Thomas Batemen, a staunch non conformist scion of the Bateman's of Hartington Hall in Derbyshire, who acquired the estate in the late 18th century and rebuilt the hall and village between 1824-1827. He died in 1847 and was succeeded by his eponymous grandson, the noted archeologist.

In excellent condition. Framed in matt black and mounted in cream.
