Descended from King Charles II, Humphrey Weld purchased the castle in 1641. Surviving members of the French royal family sheltered there after the revolution .Charles X stayed there in July 1830 during the uprisings in France. The family still own the castle, situated within the estate are the picturesque Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove beaches.
