Item Description
Here is a giant and rare Chinese export armorial porcelain charger or platter. It bears the arms of PINFOLD or PENFOLD impaling another arms. Dates to circa 1770-1785. Beautifully painted underglaze blue Fitzhugh border. Wonderful colourful armorial.
Probably made for the PINFOLD family of Walton Hall,Bucks and briefly Chickley Hall (circa 1793+). Charles Pinfold was Admiralty Advocate, 1751-56 and Governor of Barbados (1756-66). His son Joseph Pinfold married Martha Johnstone in 1770. His nephew also a Charles Pinfold, inherited the estate on his uncles death in 1788. He married Fanny Williams in 1799, she was a foundling, left on Lady Amherst's doorstep.
