Item Description
A superb Georgian silver fob seal with blazon: "azure, a chevron ermine between three pelicans vulning their breasts or, on a canton a lion passant".
Arms seem derived from CULMER with the addition of the canton for MEADOWS.
Impressed "HB" mark. Circa 1780.
Hester Bateman was widowed at 52 and with a large family, she took over her husband's business. She registered her own silver mark and expanded the business by designing and producing her own silver wares.
