Here is a superb armorial porcelain plate with the crests of the Duncan family of Camperdown House, Dundee, Scotland, below an Earl's Coronet. Possibly Rockingham.

Admiral Adam Duncan, Ist Viscount Camperdown 1731-1804 was a British Admiral who defeated a Dutch Invasionary fleet off Camperdown, Holland 11th October 1797. It was considered one of the most significant acts in Naval history. He was rewarded by a greatful nation with an annual pension of £3000, also his heirs, the titles of Baron Duncan and Viscount Duncan and the Naval Gold Medal. His son, Robert Dundas Haldane Duncan 2nd Viscount Duncan, 1st Earl of Camperdown, (for whom this was probably made) assumed the name and arms of Haldane that of his paternal grandmother. (Crest with suffer).

"There is no man who sincerely laments the heavy loss you have sustained than myself; but the name of Duncan will never be forgot by Britain and in particular by its navy, in which service the rememberance of your worthy father will, I am sure, grow up in you. I am sorry not to have a good sloop to give you, but still an opening offers which I think will insure your confirmation as a commander". Horatio Nelson.

Condition: Excellent, some regilding.
