Item Description
A superb porcelain plate, made by Copeland or Minton, ordered through London retailers Daniell.
Probably made for Hugh Robert Hughes, of Kinmel Hall, Abergele, Conwy, Wales. Nicknamed "HRH" for his spending. Queen Victoria visited the monumnetal Victorian Hall, described as the Welsh Versailles. designed by W.Nesfield and completed in the 1870's.
The plate has opulent raised gilding and is testament to the quality of late Victorian craftsmanship and an indication of the past glory of Kinmel Hall, still complete, but now on the "at risk" register.
A rich seam of copper was found on family land, Parys Mountain.
