Item Description

A 19th century armorial bookplate for Davies Gilbert of Tredrea, Cornwall and East Bourn, Sussex.

Davies Gilbert (1767-1839) was a British engineer, author, politician and President of the Royal Society 1827-1830. An MP from 1804-1832, he actively promoted Humphrey Davy and used his position in parliament to promote scientific ventures.

He was born Davies Giddy later adopting his wifes maiden name upon inheriting her uncles estate in Sussex.

Condition: Very good.

Framed in matt black.
