G R VI (King George VI)
An unsigned bookplate designed by G W Eve and originally cut on wood by H S Ulrich for King George V. When King George VI came to the throne in 1936 he had the simple cypher bookplate that his father had used for personal books adapted for himself, having the V changed to VI. Described by Brian North Lee in "British Royal Bookplates" as "very rare".
In excellent condition and framed in matt black.
History
Provenance: From the collection of Sir Charles Travis Clay (1885-1978), Librarian of the House of Lords from 1922-1956.
