The Hornyold-Strickland Family Crest
		
		
			
			Henry Hornyold-Strickland FSA of Sizergh Castle, Westmoreland, JP, High Sheriff (1937) and Lord Lieutenant (1957-1965).  Born 1890 son of Alfred Joseph Hornyold of 97 Eaton Place, married 1920 Hon Mary Strickland, eldest daughter and co-heiress of 1st and last Baron Strickland.  Assumed additional name and arms of Strickland by Royal Licence in 1932 following conveyance of Sizergh estate from Lord Strickland.  The Sizergh estate having been in Strickland hands since at least 1179.  Mr Hornyold-Strickland gave Sizergh Castle to the National trust in 1950.  His eldest son and heir, Lt-Cmdr Thomas Henry Hornyold-Strickland DSC, inherited the Maltese title, Count Della Cantena upon the death of his mother in 1970.
