The Somers Family Crest

Lieutenant-Colonel Arthur Herbert Tennyson Somers-Cocks, 6th Baron Somers, KCMG, DSO, MC, DL,1887-1944 of Eastnor Castle, Herefordshire. Son of Herbert Somers-Cocks by Blanche Clogstoun. 16th Governor of the State of Victoria, Australia (1926 and 1931). The barony was created in 1784 for Sir Charles Cocks, MP, 1st Bart, of Dumbleton and great nephew and heir to John Somers, Lord Somers of the 1697 creation. Sir Charles son, John Somers-Cocks was created Earl Somers in 1821. The earldom expired upon the death of the 3rd earl in 1883. However the barony passed to the uncle of the 6th baron, a descendant of Sir Charles second son.
