The Kite Family Crest
Borne by James Kite, who emigrated to America in 1680, was the son of Sir George Kite, and a close friend of William Penn. He married Mary Warner and settled in West Philadelphia. Sir George was a British admiral who had been born in Gloucestershire in 1625 the son of Sir William Keyt of Ebrington. He was second in command to Admiral Penn in the taking of Jamaica in 1655 and, like Admiral Penn, served in the Navy of both Cromwell and Charles II.
