The Fytche or ffytche Family Crest

Fytche of Thorpe Hall, Louth, Lincolnshire. John Fytche (d.1855), only son of the Rev Stephen Fytche, Rector of Louth, acquired Thorpe Hall, Elkington, co. Lincoln. Succeeded by his son John Lewis Fytche (1816-1903) who subsequently sold Thorpe Hall. Burkes Landed Gentry (1879 edition) records that the Fytches were descended from an ancient Essex family that included the extinct Fytche baronetcy created for Sir William Fytche by James II. Rev Stephen Fytche married Martha Green, neice of John Green,D.D., Bishop of Lincoln and apart from John above had two daughters. The younger daughter, Eliza, married George Tennyson, Rector of Somersby and father of the Poet Laureate, Alfred, Lord Tennyson. This crest was taken from a mid 19th century bookplate, but the crest listed for the family in Burkes is different and a separate entry has been created.
