The Holwell Family Crest
John Zephaniah Holwell of Mount Foelix at Walton upon Thames, Surrey, late Governor of Fort William in Bengal in the East Indies, claimed in his petition to the Earl Marshal for a grant of Arms, to be descended from the Holwell family of Holwell in Devon. Achieved renown for his writings about his experiences as a prisoner in the Black Hole of Calcutta in 1756.
