The Cottin Family Crest
Alexander Cottin of Cheverall's Green, Hertfordshire. The Gentleman's magazine records that he married Mrs Newe Barwick of Charter House Square in 1770 and that he died in 1794. Father of Col Josiah Cottin (1771-1843) of the 10th Hussars who married Lavinia (died 1830), daughter of the architect Sir William chambers. From 1797 they lived in a grace and favour apartment at Hampton Court where they raised 9 children, one of whom, Georgina Maria, was painted by Sir Thomas Lawrence. Col Cottin resigned his commission in in 1825 in disgrace following an affair with Miss Julia Storer. Miniature's of both Col Cottin and Miss Storer were sold by Sotheby's in london on 14th July 2010.
