The French Family Crest
Among the principal persons of the name of French, who, according to early records, arrived in New England, from England, previous to the year 1640, appears the name of John French, who died in Braintree, Mass., August 6, 1692. Printed and oral statements, as well as armorial bearings, confirm his Scotch descent. The coat of arms, in the possession of the family from the time of emigration, is that given here. With a change in the tinctures, these are the arms of the Frenchs of Thornidikes and Frenchland, Co. Berwick.
