The Stileman Family Crest

On the Heralds' Visitation of Hampshire (1634) appears the name of Elias Stileman, the ancestor of the New England family of the name, thus descended from the Styllemans, or Stylmans, of Cos. Wilts and Berks, a younger branch of the Stylmans of Steeple Ashton, Co. Wilts. The emigrant filled prominent public offices in Salem, where he died in 1662. His son, Elias, settled at Portsmouth, N. H.
