The Paine Family Crest
John Paine, the colonist, belonged to the Paines of Market Bosworth, Co. Leicester, and Paine, Co. Suffolk, England, and made use on his seal of the devices we give. In 1672, John Paine is known to have removed from Boston, Mass., to the Colony of Rhode Island. Later, he was imprisoned for having accepted and tried to make use of a patent of some land contested between the two colonies.
