The Digges Family Crest

The Diggeses were of an old family in Co. Kent, England, and one of them, John Digges, was County Sheriff in 1433. His descendant, Sir Dudley Digges, was named by Charles I., one of the twenty-three persons who formed a Council of Superintendents over Virginia. Edward Digges, one of his sons, came over to Virginia, where he settled, and left descendants in Warwick County. One of them, Cole Digges, who died in 1700, named his place near York, ""Childham Castle,"" after the ancestral seat of the Diggeses in England.
