The Rogers Family Crest
These arms are borne by the descendants of the Rev. Nathaniel Rogers who reached Boston in November, 1636, and settled, later, at Ipswich, Mass. It was long an admitted fact amongst the members of this family that their American ancestor was the grandson of John Rogers, the compiler of the first authorized edition of the English Bible, the pioneer of the English Reformation, and its first martyr, he being burned at the stake under Queen Mary's reign, in 1555. But, in 1861, the researches of Col. Chester destroyed the foundations of that family tradition. The father of the Nathaniel above mentioned was the Rev. John Rogers, of Dedham. The arms we give, borne for many generations by several Rogers families descending from Nathaniel are those of the Baronets Rogers of Wisdome, county Devon.
