The Burnham Family Crest

Thomas Burnam, or Burnham, as he later signed his name, was born in 1617, and emigrated in 1635 to the Barbadoes, Later (1649), owing to political troubles, the emigrant reached Connecticut, where he settled at Hartford, and owned large estates. He was a lawyer by profession, and a man of education and energy. The ancient family of Burnam of Hatfield Court, in Herefordshire county, England, now extinct, in the old country, in the direct male line, was represented in 1570 by another Thomas Burnam, without much doubt a lineal ancestor of the emigrant. It is admitted in england, at the present day, that the Burnams of Hatfield Court are now represented by the United States Burnhams.
