The Rawson Family Crest
![](http://www.myfamilysilver.com/pages/serveCrest.aspx?filename=AH87-Rawson.jpg)
In the Visitation of York, 1585, a pedigree of the Rawsons of Nidd Hall, county York, is given, beginning with Richard Rawson, Esquire of Fryston (temp. Richard IL). To that family it is claimed belonged Edward Rawson, Secretary of the Colony of Massachusetts Bay (1651-1686), who came over from Gillingham, county Dorset, England, to Newbury, Mass., in 1636-7. The emigrant used as his seal the devices we give, as is shown to this day by many imprints in his correspondence with the governors of the time.
