The Pynchon Family Crest
William Pynchon, or Pinch yon, came over with Governor Winthrop, and was amongst the patentees of the Massachusetts colony (1627). He is said to have descended from the Pinch- yons of Writtle, county Essex, whose ancestor, Nicolas Pynchon, was once Sherif of London. The Essex Visilalion, of 1558, confirms the statement to some extent.
