The Savage Family Crest
In Kings' Chapel Burial Ground, in Boston, is found the tombstone of Major Thomas Savage, the emigrant of the name, who died in 1681 (Ĺ“tet, 75). It bears the arms we give, as do several seals used by immediate descendants of Thomas Savage. In Gore's Roll of Arms are found the arms of another Thomas Savage, son of the emigrant, who lived in Boston in 1720. From him descended James Savage, the famed New England genealogist. These arms are the ancient armorial devices of the Savages of Rock Savage and Clifton, county Chester, England. The Earls Rivers (ext. 1728) bore the same arms.
