The Shippen Family Crest
The emigrant of the name was Edward Shippen of Boston, England ( 1688), whose brother was the Rev. William Shippen, Rector of Stockport, county Chester. The emigrant joined the Quakers, and became, later, Mayor of Philadelphia. We have seen several bookplates of his descendants bearing the devices we give. They are not to be found under that name in the English heraldic authorities.
