The Lowndes Family Crest
A very complete pedigree of this family, settled for a century and a half in South Carolina and in Maryland, connects it with the Lowndes of Overton, county Kent, England, now represented, according to Burke, by the Lowndes of Hassell Hall, county Chester. The emigrant, Charles Lowndes, came over in 1730, from St. Kitts, West Indies, to South Carolina. His branch of the family is now extinct. From the same stock descended the emigrant to Maryland, Christopher Lowndes, who came over from England about 1740 and built ""Bostock House"" on the heights above Bladensburg.
