The Brown of Rye Family Crest

The emigrant, Thomas Browne of Rye, county Sussex, England, came over to Concord, Mass., in 1632. The connection is not established with the family of Sir Stephen Browne, Mayor of London in 1439, the arms of whom we reproduce. The same shield is, however, found on the tomb, in Westchester county, of the Rev. Marmaduke Brown, a descendant of Thomas, the emigrant.
