The Barclay Family Crest
The American Barclays proceed from the emigrant, John Barclay, himself one of the Barclays of Urie, a renowned Scotch stock, which has furnished baronets in Scotland and princes (the Barclays de Tolly) on the continent of Europe. The pedigree is clear and undisputed, and traces back to King Brum, of Scotland, and King Henry III., of England. The emigrant was Royal Governor of East New Jersey in 1731, and the third son of Colonel David Barclay of Urie.
