The Brown Family Crest

of Waterhaughs, co. Ayr and Lanfine, co Glasgow. Burkes general armory gives a date of grant of 1806. Dr Thomas Brown of Lanfine and Waterhaughs (1774-1853) created one of the finest collections of minerals in 19th century scotland and this was gifted to Glasgow University between 1875-1897 by the family. His portrait hangs at the university. He married Marion Jeffrey, sister of Francis, Lord Jeffrey in 1806.
