The Bogle Family Crest
Daldowie, Scotland. George Bogle of Daldowie (1747-1781) was Warren Hasting's envoy to Bhutan and Tibet in 1774 and as such the first European to enter those countries. He was the inspiration for Rudyard Kipling's "Kim" and his exploits are recounted in Kate Teltscher's "The High Road to China: George Bogle, the Panchen Lama and the First British Expedition to Tibet". He was the son of George Bogle Junior (1701-1782) of Daldowie, a prominent Glasgow merchant and one of the Glasgow "Tobacco Lords". George Bogle Junior's grandfather, George Bogle Senior (d.1707) was also the ancestor of the Shettlestone and Bogleshole branches of the family.
