Item Description

The Hanoverian "Hook End" Basting/Serving Spoon is of typical form with a plain elongated bowl and turned over hook end. The top of each stem is engraved with a contemporary Crest and the reverse of the stem is very well marked. The Hook End design was peculiar to Ireland and examples are very rare today. The design simply enabled them to be hung up, when not in use. The quality of the spoon is outstanding as one would expect from this very rare silversmith, who was apprentice to Christopher Locker in 1740 and was elected Freeman of the Goldsmiths Company in 1759. He had workshops in Cole Alley, Castle Street, Dublin, when this very fine piece was made.

Length: 12.5 inches, 31.25cm.
Weight: 5.5 oz.
