A magnificent set of four important antique silver cast George III corinthian column candlesticks. A small stag’s head crest and coronet is engraved to the top of each nozzle and numbered 1 to 4, as are the candlesticks. All made by Robert Albin Cox for Jeffreys and Jones Retailers.
These superb candlesticks would have been made for the table at Hillsborough castle in Northern Ireland, which was being built in the late 1760s. The 1st Earl of Hillsborough, Wills Hills, was a good friend of Benjamin Franklin.
