Item Description
A superb Copeland & Garrett Tazza plate made for the Macdonald family of Scotland. Richly ornamented roccoco mouldings to the edge, with gold highlights. Beautiful translucent armorial porcelain.
It bears the arms of Macdonald of Dalchosnie. Probably made for General Sir John Macdonald (1788-1866), 92nd (Gordon)Highlanders. During the Pennisular War he was awarded:
Pennisular Gold Medal.
The Spanish Cross of Destinction,
The Portuguese Cross of Destinction.
Later:
The Knight Grand Cross of Bath (KCB)
These are visible on the arms.
His uncle Donald served at Waterloo in the 92nd.
The family seats were Dalchosnie and Dunalastair House, Perth, which he built. The House still stands as a romantic overgrown ruin, amongst the delightful estate and lodges, which are available for holiday lets.
