Item Description
A pair of handsome sterling silver George III wine coasters, made during the Regency period in 1814 in Sheffield. The sides are decorated with a spiral fluted pattern and finished with gadrooning to the top edges. The turned wooden bases are each centered with a silver escutcheon bearing the engraved crest above the initial 'B'- a demi-lion rampant, holding between his paws a bezant.
Each measures 13 cm in diameter ( 5 1/8 inches) at the opening and an additional 1 cm either side for the gadrooned edges thus measuring 15cm or 6 inches in all), standing 5 cm high.
Together they weigh 368 gms, including the wooden bases.
Condition is very fine, though the bases would benefit from re-varnishing.
