Knight
The crest of an eagle standing on a spur, has been long used by the descendants of Sir Thomas Knight de Salop who represented Shrewsbury in the first Parliament of Henry VIII and acquired great wealth from his ironworks in Shropshire. Both his shield and this crest display a spur, evidently a play on the family surname and the ancient ceremony in which a man was awarded his spurs in the ceremony of knighthood.
