Sir Francis Burdett was married in 1793 to Sophia, 3rd daughter and co heir of Thomas Coutts, banker of London. Francis Burdett was born in 1770 and succeeded his grandfather, Sir Robert, in 1797 to the baronetcy created in 1618. He became a well-known radical Whig politician, serving as MP for Boroughbridge, Westminster and North Wiltshire where he resided at Ramsbury Manor. After his wife Lady Burdett died on the 13th January 1844, Sir Robert could not forsee any future for himself, and decided to stop eating, he died ten days later, and Sir Robert and Lady Burdett were buried on the same day in 1844 in the chancel of Ramsbury Church. Survived by one son and eventual heir, Colonel Robert Burdett, as well as five daughters. Their fifth daughter, Angela Burdett-Coutts, achieved later distinction as the richest woman in Britain and a noteworthy philanthropist. The baronetcy became extinct in 1951
