Burkes General Armory lists five familes of the name of Bovile and one each of Bovill and Bovyll. Of the five Bovile's listed only one has any geographic reference and that is to Suffolk. This family shares the same shield as the Bovill and Bovyll families, "Quarterly argent and sable", although the crest is different.
Sir William Bovill (1814-1873) was an english lawyer, politician and Judge who was made Chief Justice of the Common Pleas in 1866. He was the son of Benjamin Bovill of Wimbledon
