Item Description
This fine antique George III sterling silver tea caddy has a plain Regency style bombe shaped form.
The incurved corners to each edge are ornamented with applied ribbed borders, simulating a panelled effect to the plain waisted body.
The front surface is embellished with a fine and impressive bright cut engraved crest displaying out of a ducal coronet a phoenix, wings extended.
The tea caddy retains the original plain domed hallmarked hinged cover embellished with further applied gadroon style decoration to the rim.
The cover is surmounted with the original sterling silver rectangular chamfered finial.
The lower portion of this Georgian caddy is supported by an impressive pierced decorated gallery incorporating chased leaf decorated bracket style feet in the Regency style.
The maker's mark of this impressive piece is a part of the missing marks register for largeworkers and remains untraced.
Condition
This antique tea caddy is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition.
The applied decoration is very sharp and the bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp.
Full hallmarks struck to the underside and lion passant to the sleeve of the cover are all very clear.
